This Saturday (28th June) myself and Chris Keenan will be performing at the 7 Inch Cinema 5th Birthday Shindig. For any Birmingham based cats who have not been to a 7 Inch event before this is a great chance to see what they're all about. Expect fine music, obscure short films and tons of inspiration.

If you're coming down to especially peep me & Chris doing a Super 8 ambient soundtrack then try to come early; we're on around 7.30 / 8ish. (I'll be posting the set up on here next week.)

So I updated to Firefox 3 the other day and have been generally impressed with the subtle but sweet updates. It certainly feels faster on the Mac than it's slow-as-a-slug predecessor.

But today I discovered a major glitch in the upgrade… all my Firefox 2 bookmarks have disappeared!? What a cack handed mistake that is.

After a quick bit of research it seems it's a known bug for those who tried out the Firefox 3 beta for a while. There is a work around but it looks like a royal pain.

Luckily - my bookmarking is a bit shoddy at the best of times and I only recently moved back over to Firefox from Safari in my game of browser tennis — so the most useful bookmarks I do have are still safe.

Anyways - let that be a small warning — back-up your bookmarks first just in case.

FireNes is a wicked little widget for Firefox that lets you play zillions of NES games right there in your browser. The plug-ing takes about 5 seconds to install (the site is in Spainish - click 'instalar FireNes') and then you'll have a sidebar jam packed with classic NES titles. All you need to do from there is pick the game and play. To set options and find out the keys, CTRL-click (right click for you PC losers).

Shame there's no full screen option - yet.

I spent the best part of a couple of hours working my way through this electronic music tree. (Virtually) every genre of electronic music is covered with samples as examples. Ever wondered what Gloomcore is? Look no further. What makes the guide is the entertaining commentary by Ishkur. For example...

Ghetto Tech
“When Ghetto Tech plays, it's as if the Heavens themselves are speaking. Ghetto Tech will be the natural law of the New World Order. God himself will come down, declare his kingdom on earth, and inscribe on two tablets for all the hoes to shake their multitudes of titties. And it will be good. To the farthest reaches of the earth Ghetto Tech will permeate, and teach us all about harmony, life, love, and slapping dicks against the mouths of many bitches. Oh yes. So it is written, so it will be done. Amen.”
Any type heads should head over to Fontshop and investigate their new online font creation software — Fontstruct. The application enables you to create fonts entirely online in a simple yet flexible environment. It gets better though — the range of elements to help you create the fonts is massive allowing for a huge degree of flexibility and scope to create truly unique typefaces. Read on to see some samples demonstrating what can be acheived. All the fonts created by users are free to download which is the icing on the cake. Link of the year for me so far.

I'm going to set our design team a challenge to create a font with this application and will post on Flim Flam very soon.

No not toys made by the Birmingham based Capsule girls who put on great events like Supersonic, but toys from Japanese vending machines. Pingmag have done a great round up of the scene showcasing some of the best and strangest on offer.

“A collection of vintage logos from a
mid-70's edition of the book World of
Logotypes”

Head over to this Flickr set to see some truly great and inspiring logo work. This book reminds me very much of the books by Yasaburo Kuwayama. It's funny to see so many logos in this collection which remind the mind of logos created fairly recently.

[Edit: Thanks for the keen eye Tiago]

I've kept the image quite cryptic so not to spoil the surprise ;)
